Workers Compensation Insurance
What Is Workers Compensation?
Workers compensation or workers comp insurance provides workers with wage replacement and medical treatment benefits in the event of an injury or illness that occurs on the job. The coverage is provided in exchange for the mandatory relinquishment of the worker’s right to sue his or her employer for negligence or work conditions that can cause injury or illness.
Determining Needs For Your Business
In most states, laws require businesses to have workers comp insurance. The laws are designed to ensure that employers pay some of the costs associated with an employee's work-related injuries or illness.
What Injuries Are Covered?
Injuries that may be covered under workers comp insurance include those related to heavy lifting, falls on wet or slippery surfaces or incidents related to employer or employee carelessness. It may also cover services related to an employee’s recovery and return to work.
Most workers comp insurance plans do not cover injuries that occur when the employee is not working or injuries that result from an intoxicated employee or one who is using illegal drugs.
