Know the Facts About the Uncertain Future of Obamacare

While Affordable Care Act (ACA) or Obamacare open enrollment begins Nov. 1, the future of healthcare is very uncertain. One political party says do away with it, the other says let’s try to revive it. Depending on the upcoming election we will know how to plan.

Regardless of the direction the government takes, we believe some future options will be offered. The health insurance industry cannot afford to take plans off the table without offering alternatives. That’s what they are in business to do and it’s the way they generate revenue.

We usually talk in terms of the individual loss if Obamacare is restricted or lost. The other side of the argument is the providers. There are many network providers who will loose clients, which are needed to succeed. Their income is based on the number of patients seen or the number contracted with in the plan. If that is lost, the healthcare industry will also be hurt.

When you’re considering your options, it’s important to know the difference between plans that are off the exchange and those that are on the exchange. Both plans offer the same coverage and neither can ask health questions, so they do not hold pre-existing conditions against you. However, the difference is that plans on the exchange allow you to apply a subsidy if you qualify.

It’s also important to understand how to lower your healthcare premium. If you have an increase in monthly cost and find it impossible to pay, you have a few options. One option is to change plans, such as, move to a Bronze Plan if you are on a Silver Plan. The benefits will differ, but the cost may be significantly lowered. You may even want to look at a variety of companies.
